Noel Dooley, R.I.P.

It was with deep regret that Dublin Lawn Tennis Council members learned of the passing of Noel Dooley on 19th August 2017.  We extend our sincere sympathy to his wife Magdalen, his daughters Catherine-Anne and Olwen, and his extended family.  May he rest in peace.

Noel joined the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council in November 1977 and served continuously for 33 years until February 2011.

Noel always believed that his best work for the Council was done in the “engine room” and he had no ambitions to progress to the “bridge”.  His contributions at our meetings were always to the point and he had a great propensity to get straight to the core of a problem and suggest a simple solution that no one else had the foresight to see.  He spent many hours meticulously checking match results sheets.  He attended all league finals where he gave generously of his time.  A true gentleman, Noel was always willing to give newer Council members a helping hand.

In his younger days, Noel was a highly rated athlete competing for both Clonliffe Harriers Athletic Club and Civil Service Athletic Club.  However his love of tennis was foremost and he competed as a highly rated player for his beloved Glasnevin LTC for many years.  He also worked assiduously behind the scenes for his Club.

Our photo shows Noel receiving an award from Mary Harte, Secretary of the DLTC in October 2006 to mark his outstanding service and contribution to the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council.
